Driving Sweep – NRS
Driving Sweep follows river guide Katie Veteto as she takes on one of the most iconic roles in whitewater guiding—piloting a 4,000 lb sweep boat down Idaho’s legendary Middle Fork of the Salmon River. After years of learning the river’s rapids, Katie steps into the hot seat to run sweep for the first time—navigating steep, technical drops aboard one of river guiding’s most powerful crafts.
A Rare Role in River Guiding
Few river guides ever get the opportunity to run a sweep boat—let alone on the Middle Fork. In Driving Sweep, filmmaker Greg Cairns captures both the intensity and beauty of the experience as Katie embraces the challenge with humility, strength, and focus.
This short film offers a behind-the-scenes look into the skills, trust, and tradition that define life on the river—and what it means to take the next step as a guide.
